Xiamen University opened tree-climbing classes for its students several years ago, which had drawn wide attention from the society. Now the attention is even more.

17th of September, PE teacher Zheng Daxiong was introducing the set of tools needed to bring up to the tree when trimming.

In the early morning of 15th, the No.14 typhoon Meranti landed in Xiamen, destroyed more

than 20,000 trees in Xiamen University alone. Among the tree-rescue squads in the University,

tree-climbers in helmets and earplugs were on the move, some of them are teammates of XMU

tree-climbing club, some are in the tree-climbing class.

They made creative use of what they’ve learned in the class to help trim and protect the wounded part of the trees, which can’t be reached by machines.

Tree-climbing is an exciting out-door activity and has been very popular in western countries already.
